So these shakes are full of all kinds of goodness! My kids know what's in it, because most of the time my son helps me make it. He loves putting the ingredients in the blender and pushing the buttons, of course with me right there with him.
I love that knowing what's in it doesn't stop them from enjoying it...
What's in it??? Glad you asked;) Lots.
I throw all kinds of stuff in my smoothies.
- kale
- frozen berries
- frozen bannana
- yogurt or cottage cheese
- coconut milk
- carrot juice
- grape juice
- choc protein (either arbonne or muscle milk)
- a serving of benefiber
- a serving of probiotics (I open the capsules and pour the powder in)
- I stir a serving of a kid's liquid multi vitamin called, kids natural calm in each glass. The kids don't like the taste of it JUST in juice, but don't even notice it in the smoothie. Stirring it in each glass rather than in the blender helps me know they each got a full serving.

I buy this awesome kale from our local health food store. It's locally grown and organic. But my favorite part about it is that it's dark dark green and has these gorgeous large leaves. It's called dinosaur kale. I used to just store it in my fridge and use it in a week, but I always had to throw some of it out. The leaves would turn yellow before I could get to them...so now I do some prep work and freeze all of the kale as soon as I get it.
Divide it into containers or ziplock baggies and freeze them. One container is the amount I use in a smoothie. My kiddos love to tear off the leaves for me. So I gladly gave them that job. They love being mommy's helper in the kitchen. This is one job that won't make a sticky mess.

Back from one of our weekly trips to the health food store.
I've been known to talk about smoothies and kale before...here and here.

man, you always look so beautiful! you MUST share your secret (you have to have one, don't be selfish!) oh, and nice reusable bag i see there ;)
thanks, i've been trying to find some ways to add health but still keep our smooties yummy! i hadn't thought of Kale or putting probiotic powder in it:) i usually do a fruit base, yogurt, wheat germ, and flax seed and oats:)
Great post but would it be possible to get the basic recipe you follow to make your smoothies to know how much of liquids and solids you use? Never thought you could freeze Kale.
I need to re-visit this smoothie topic here. I made them with some spinach a little while ago. They weren't terrible, but not super awesome, either. I think I had way too much spinach.
Thanks for the encouragement! :)
@Barbi-Thanks girl...okay one secret...I wear big sunglasses so I feel glamorous;) Oh and yes!...love my reusable bag you gave me, sweet friend!
@Mandy-I love wheat germ!
@Aura...I will measure it all out and update this post...just for you, mama:)
@party of five(sam-girl)...don't think of these smoothies like smoothies from Wendy's...they're yum...but of course taste somewhat healthy. If you eat them enough and only eat the real dessert ones on occasion you will learn to love them too:)
Thanks for the comments ladies!!! XO
