It's been a longtime since I've talked about working out. I will confess, this time around it's been a lot harder for me to
dishes.
laundry.
kids calling "mommy"... over and over til you stop everything and come.
never ending chores.
disciplining the kids.
over committing myself.
being tired.
night feedings.
sheer exhaustion.
being overwhelmed about "doing it all"
and so much more.
In fact. I don't have any business taking the time to write this blog post, but I wanted to share and encourage other Moms to take care of themselves and to tell you, it can be done.
If you are a mom, you know.
Well, I am done feeling like a failure when I miss my workouts. No more going to bed feeling further and further from my fitness goal.
So...
I have started incorporating short bursts of workouts throughout my day, I call them "mommy workouts" and let.me.tell.you...I am seeing results! AND just after a week.
Even if you're not a busy mom, you can still benefit from this new idea of working out. Maybe you approach your fitness in an "all or nothing" way like I have...
Not anymore baby! Yes, a full hour, cardio mixed with weights is ideal. But most days not possible. Some days I will be able to, but not most days. With this plan I will still feel like I am on my way to reach my goal.
btw, my goal is to be fit. I want to be strong, healthy, look good for my hubby and feel good in my clothes.
here it is guys...
I workout, all day long. In my jeans or pjs a lot of the time.
some examples:
I stop in the middle of doing the dishes to do 20 reps of side-kicks on each side. barefoot most of the time.
I do 20 back-kicks on each side after I change a diaper.
I stop after I load the washing machine to do 20 push ups on the floor.
I play ball with my three year old in my living room and squat every time I catch or toss the ball to him.
I do 40 tri-cep dips off the tub after I go to the bathroom.
I do 20 squats over the potty while I'm still in there.
I do a quick leg workout and ab workout on the floor. 20-50 reps
I turn on some fast music and dance with the kids. Even if it's just to one song at a time.
and so many other variations. I know for me, since I've been teaching fitness now for over five years, most of these moves just pops in my head, but for inspiration, check out some of these videos on you-tube.
None of these quick bursts of energy take longer than a few min, and the best part, you don't feel like you're interrupted if you have to stop. Just start another one after your next task.
I don't set aside time or plan when or what I workout.
I just STOP AND DO IT! SOMETHING. ANYTHING. ALL DAY.
My workouts won't be like this forever. My kids will eventually all be in school. I will have more time on my hands someday. For now though, this is my new form of fitness. It's working, I have more energy, I can tell I am getting stronger, I enjoy the bursts of endorphins and I'm seeing results!
I still try to get a few days of yoga in on top of my mommy workouts...my new yoga video crush is Yoga Works. You can download the session I do here.
What are your "mommy workouts"?
Note: My yoga & group fitness certifications do not make me an authority on fitness. I like to think of myself as a "fitness minded mommy". I like to inspire and see people grow and gain fitness confidence. If you've never worked out before, please confirm with your doctor before starting this or any other fitness routine. Above all else, listen to your body.
You can do it!:)

I did like 30 min. of p90x today, cardio x, yoga, kenpo and plyo combined, but didnt finish because i just have to much to do. My mom said it well... "theres a time and season for everything" - right now is not my season to work out.. and be in super shape, but I do hope to work it into my routine next year, and have a set goal to start p90x for 90 days again jan 11th
:)
This us great inspiration. I never thought of working out like this. I always felt I need to do a routine or something. Thanks for the tips.
so true!! i try to fit it in whenever possible but not go overboard. i was going whole hog right after the baby was born because i just HAD to get off the extra weight and quick. yeah. now that it's gone I'm just trying to be happy, healthy, fit and like you said "look good for the hubby" and my clothes;)
