I had a laundry problem...and I fixed it.

My laundry fix

So, laundry had never really been an issue for me, until this pregnancy. Carrying huge loads down the stairs was just not possible anymore. Not to mention I fell down the stairs two years ago, while carrying a huge laundry basket. Didn't really have any internal injuries, just scrapes and cuts. So I knew I better not carry a basket while pregnant.

My husband did help wash for a while, but we still had huge piles of clean laundry and he mistakenly dried/shrunk a few pieces...so he was banned from my clothes. Not really...but shrinking maternity clothes is not cool, okay maybe they didn't shrink. I have gotten huge, again;)

This blog may not help anyone, but it might. So I thought I'd share.

I feel so at ease now about laundry. Kinda funny...but laundry was really becoming a huge burden.

I realize this fix is only for large families, and many of the steps are because I'm large with child;) Big families, enjoy.

So here is my new routine:

I sit cobbler style (a very "mommy-like" seat) to stuff laundry bags, which I kick like a sacks of potatoes down the stairs, then I sit cobbler style again in our basement laundry room to sort colors.

For those of you that do not know why I sit cobbler style and I say it's a mommy-like seat is because it's a good "exercise" for expectant moms. Not to mention very comfortable.
I do a lot of squatting while washing and drying the laundry...also a mommy-like exercise.

I purchased five cheap light weight laundry baskets from the dollar store for this new laundry routine. The kids can carry their own basket. Not on the stairs, but around.

I dump all the laundry onto our guest bed, then my husband and seven year old can help me with the sorting. This is my fun fix! Tossing/sorting clothes. Everyone has their own basket and I use the large baskets I already had for towels and sheets (my husband has to carry these baskets up for me)

After the clothes are sorted we carry the baskets to the rooms they belong in...then we might wait a day to hang and fold them, which we did sometimes anyway, but this way I can send the kids to their own basket to search for something they need. This helps my husband and me as well. No more digging for socks...all our clean clothes are in our own little baskets.

Simple, but it's taken a "load" off my back {cheesy smile}

For those of you curious. Baby is still baking. Due dates mean very little to me. When he's ready, he's ready. My body has been practicing some...so that is reassuring. Stay tuned...

XO
